Steel Prices Reach Four-Year High Amid Firm Demand and Rising Raw Material Costs: Enlight Metals

Domestic steel prices have reached a four-year high amid firm demand and elevated raw material costs, according to Enlight Metals, India’s first agentic AI-enabled metal aggregator. The latest movement comes as manufacturers across sectors continue to closely track steel prices and procurement conditions amid sustained demand in the domestic market.

HRC prices have reached around ₹64,000 per tonne, while CRC prices stand at approximately ₹75,000 per tonne. At the same time, domestic steel consumption has grown by 7% year-on-year to around 70 MT during April–August FY27, reflecting continued demand across key steel-consuming sectors.

The recent movement in steel prices comes amid firm demand across infrastructure, construction and automotive sectors, along with elevated raw material costs. With the market continuing to witness strong demand, manufacturers are increasingly focusing on procurement planning, price visibility and inventory management.

Commenting on the current steel market outlook, Vedant Goel, Director, Enlight Metals, said: “Steel prices reaching four-year highs underline the growing cost pressures across the manufacturing value chain. HRC prices have risen to around ₹64,000 per tonne, while CRC is at ₹75,000 per tonne, with domestic steel consumption also growing 7% year-on-year to 70 MT during April-August FY27. In this environment, manufacturers need greater price visibility and stronger procurement planning to manage volatility and maintain supply continuity. As demand from infrastructure, construction and automotive sectors remains firm, data-led sourcing and timely inventory decisions will become increasingly important for businesses navigating the second half of the fiscal.”

The current market scenario highlights the importance of closely monitoring steel prices and procurement conditions as manufacturers plan their requirements for the second half of FY27. With demand remaining firm across key sectors, procurement planning and inventory management are expected to remain important considerations for steel-consuming industries.
