MAHLE becomes the first company to establish an e-compressor production facility in India. The location in Coimbatore was strategically selected for this €7.0 million investment due to the region’s strong manufacturing competence, skilled talent pool, and the established operational expertise of the automotive supplier, headquartered in Germany. E-compressors are important for the thermal management in electric vehicles and crucial for battery life, high charging speed and driving range. The new production line meets international manufacturing and quality standards, ensuring world-class product quality and reliability. At full capacity, MAHLE is capable of producing more than 300,000 e-compressors annually, supporting both domestic and global customer requirements. Starting the e-compressor production in Coimbatore creates around 50 new jobs, strengthening the MAHLE Group’s contribution to local manufacturing in line with the government’s “Make in India 2.0” initiative and supporting the lasting growth of India’s automotive sector.
With the launch of this advanced e-compressor manufacturing facility, MAHLE has expanded its product portfolio for electrification. The Coimbatore plant already manufactures starter motors, alternators, two-wheeler and three-wheeler traction motors and controllers. In 2023, MAHLE established a research and development facility to develop local expertise in product validation, further strengthening the company´s engineering and manufacturing capabilities in the region. The staffing of the whole plant has been designed with a target of 75 percent women workforce by 2027, fostering an inclusive and progressive work environment while creating meaningful employment opportunities in the region.
